THE PRO'S ADVICE: CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE FOR YOUR TOURING SKIS

1 - UBAC Line: versatile touring skis

Ski_de_rando_ZAG_Ubac_102_photo_lukaleroy.jpg

For ski tourers, it is important to choose a ski that is approximately your size. Possibly a little smaller if you are looking for maneuverability on the descent and ease in the kick turn. Choose minimum your size or even a little longer if you are looking for stability at high speed. This line of skis is a must for touring and freetouring, thanks to an exceptional weight/performance compromise, approved by the Chamonix guides. These skis are perfect for people who want a pair of all-conditions touring skis for day or multi-day trips!

U-89 / U-89 LADY

This is the ski with the slighest rocker of the UBAC range. If you hesitate between two sizes, don't hesitate to choose the smaller one.

U-95 / U-95 LADY

Because of its double rocker we advise you to choose this ski at your size. If you have to choose, the smaller size means a better handling, the longer size means the better performance at high speed.

U-102 /U-102 LADY

The Ubac 102 is the most high performance oriented model in the range. If you have to choose between two sizes and you have the technical background, don't hesitate to take the longer one.

BAKAN

Because of its big double rockers, don't hesitate to choose a little bit longer if you have to choose between two sizes.

2 - ADRET Line: ultra-light touring skis

For the skiers who love touring it will be necessary to choose a ski approximately with its size. Possibly a little smaller if you are looking for maneuverability on the descent and ease in the kick turns, minimum at your size or even a little longer if you are looking for stability at high speed. The Adret line is characterized by their extreme lightness and versatility, offering unmatched comfort in all types of snow. This is an ultra-light ski that is perfect for training or day trips.

ADRET 78

This is an atypical ski where you should not hesitate to choose a smaller size: if your objective is to swallow huge amount of elevation gain, choose the smallest size possible within the recommended range.

ADRET 85 / ADRET 85 LADY

On this ultra-light but versatile ski if you hesitate between two sizes, it is relevant to choose the smaller size.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The size of a ski has to be chosen according to your size, your level, your ambitions and your practice.
  • A double-rocker ski (SLAP range) will always be more pivotable than a flat heel ski (HARFANG range).
  • The longer the ski is, the more stable it is at high speed. It will also perform better in deep snow but will be more difficult to handle (this requires a good technical and physical background). The smaller is the ski, the more maneuverable and easier it will be, but it will not be super stable at high speeds and the balance will be more precarious in deep snow.
  • For the LADYs, please note that what differs between a men's and a women's model of the same size is only the design: top-sheet (graphic coating) of the ski. The shape and construction are the same. If a model doesn’t exist in your size in LADY, you can choose a male model, or the contrary.
